What’s Important To Us

In 2015-2016, we underwent an in-depth assessment of our church community, our neighborhood, and the wider community. We thought about our strengths and gifts and resources; we considered our weaknesses and limitations. What we discovered is:

We have a big heart for WELLNESS — physical, emotional, spiritual, and communal.

We’ve discovered that there is one Greek word, sozo, which can be — and has been — translated as healing, and as wholeness, and as wellness, and as salvation.

To be well: to be healed, to be whole, to be saved.

To be well in Christ. That’s what’s important to us.

That is to say: What’s important to us at 2CCW is creating opportunities for healing, wholeness, and salvation all around us:

among our own little 2CCW community;

within the community around us, both in our immediate Winchester neighborhood and within the surrounding communities and world;

and for those who visit us or who are new to church in general.

In 2017-2018, we dove a little deeper by going through the UCC Open and Affirming Process.

Recognizing that our LGBTQ siblings have often been left out of community, and sometimes actively harmed by Christian gatherings, becoming an Open and Affirming Congregation means that we extend an explicit and joyous welcome to all people, particularly those in the LGBTQ community, to come experience wellness here with us. We made our covenant (promise) to our LGBTQ siblings and all of our siblings more generally in May 2018. Our covenant can be found on our home page.

We’re still figuring out what else our commitment to wellness means. But we hope you’ll come join us in the playful work of discerning how God’s Spirit is already among us and is already working through us!
